Label Specifications: Wind Direction
Feb 27th 2024
What is Wind Direction for Labels?
A label can be wound onto a roll up to 8 different ways. The orientation on which a label comes off of the roll, determines the Wind Direction.
Some rolls are wound with the label coming off of the outside of the roll, so we consider those Outside Wound. The labels on these rolls are visible from the outside, since they face outwards.
Rolls wound with labels facing the inside of the roll are Inside Wound. Only the liner is visible once the roll is finished.
Wind Direction is important to note because certain application processes will require a specific type of wind. For example: our 7" Roll-On Pro applicates with rolls that are outside wound, so only labels wound in style #1-4 can be run on the machine. But when used for beer cans or bottles will specifically need rolls with wind #4.
If you are hand applying labels, the wind direction can be any way you choose. Since applicator machines require a specific wind direction, make sure your information is correct or you will run into issues that will affect production.
We hope this provides some insight on wind direction! And can't wait to see what Labels you end up brewing!
